Everyone was dressed to the nines, dinner was excellent, and the fights were spectacular!
If this the first you're hearing of Fight for Charity, it is an annual event held at the RBC Convention Center in support of Manitoba charities. Guests enjoy a gourmet dinner, casino games, a silent auction, raffle prizes, and the highlight of the night, 12 amateur boxing matches. Several brave souls have volunteered and dedicate 12 weeks of their time to prepare for their first amateur bout, all in the name of helping those in need. This years event was held in support of our very own Pan Am Place.
Since last year, Fight for Charity has gained in popularity, and this year's event was sold out at 750 attendees! Not yet including funds from the silent action and raffle, $18 000 has been raised so far.
As the night went on, and several bottles of wine later, the atmosphere was electric as guests cheered on their favourite fighters with excitement. Considering that most of the competitors have no prior experience boxing, let alone stepping into the ring, they all performed exceptionally well. All the hard work and dedication they put into training for this one night was evident in their performance.
Fight for Charity is a phenomenal event, given the opportunity to attend, or better yet, become a participant, I would highly recommend it! I'm already looking forward to next year! Do you think you'd be interested in fighting in a big event like this? Let me know in the comments section below!
