What is the
The box-a-thon is a fundraising event where participants will body spar for as many rounds that they can go for! It is a fun 2.5-hour event where all funds raised will be in support of Pan Am Place 2, a housing program for women.
All rounds will be controlled contact body sparring supervised by a referee to ensure participant safety.

A blast from the past, Pan Am is bringing back the “Box-A-Thon” for its fourth installment! The event is open to all Pan Am members and your participation is welcomed and strongly encouraged!
Here's how it works:
Participants register by completing the attached registration forms. At time of registration, you will be provided a sponsorship package.
All registrants require a minimum of $250 in donations to participate the day of.
Participants are to collect donations from friends, family, co-workers, and anyone willing to support a great cause (and you). Donations can be a lump sum or per round… Based on how many rounds you complete during the event, that’s what the donor pays.
All participants will arrive on Saturday, February 29 at 9:30 am, ready to get in the ring for 10 am. Sparring will be body sparring/controlled contact ONLY. A referee will supervise each sparring round. The goal is that you will spar for as many rounds (does not have to be consecutive) as you want in 2.5hr. The ref will initial your participation form, indicating how many rounds you did, and you can continue on to another ring (we will have multiple rings going) or take a break and come back.
The male and female with the most rounds completed at the end of the day will win a three-month membership as a thank you for their efforts
I have no sparring/fighting experience, can I still participate?
Not only can you, but you should! This event is open to all skill levels and gives you an opportunity to step in the ring with an opponent and a referee. There will be no decision, no scoring, and will be very closely monitored throughout.
If i can't get the minimum donation amount, can I still participate?
If a participant cannot obtain the minimum required donations but still wants to participate, yes but only if you cover what remains of $250 minimum. Because this is a fundraising event, a minimum box-a-thon participation fee will apply to everyone.
If I can’t go more than a couple rounds, am I out of the competition?
No, the goal is to do as many rounds over the course of the day that you can, but they do not need to be consecutive. So, if you want to take a break, watch some of the other sparring sessions or relax, you can join back in when ready. The winners will be decided by the total rounds completed at the end of the day.
I’m not registered to fight, can I still participate?
Yes! Your Boxing Manitoba 2020 Rec Membership is included in the Box-A-Thon registration. Because this is controlled body contact only, a formal medical is not required.
I want to support the event but I don’t want to get in the ring, how can I help?
Pan Am welcomes your support… Please consider donating to some of your favourite trainers, class members and friends if they are participating.
If we give donations, do we get a donation receipt?
Yes. Pan Am Place is a registered charity. All donations over $25 with the necessary information on the donation form will receive a tax receipt.
Will I be matched up with an opponent according to weight and skill level?
No. Because the idea is to keep it fun, it is not a real fight and skill & weight will not be considered. Referees will pay close attention to what is going on in the ring and will immediately stop anything unsafe. Participants also have the option to “pass” and move on to another ring if they are concerned about a certain opponent. The idea is not to take anyone out or to “win”, it’s to go as many rounds as you can and raise as much $$ as possible.
Who collects the donation forms and what do I do with the money I raised?
You are responsible to collect and hand in your donation forms no later than March 15, 2020. This will be your responsibility. For per round completed donations, you will be given signed proof of how many rounds you completed that can be shown to donors, and they can call us to verify it if they wish.
